Get Up Off My Clam Knowledge

July 11, 2011 by Amy

My brother refuses to play Scrabble with me. It’s been a long standing issue in our relationship — whether it’s at a family gathering or we’re just sitting around bored, he just won’t play. He’s a smart guy and has no problem playing other word games. He’ll drop everything to play Boggle, but never Scrabble. I even have the Scrabble Deluxe Turntable which seems to be a rare commodity these days. And yet, he still denies me.

Hence, I go through pretty intensive phases playing Facebook Scrabble. I’m rocking four games right now, but when I’m not dealing with actual life things, I get itchy if I don’t have ten going at the same time. So when Words with Friends was finally available on Android, it was like a moth to a flame.

I play with friends all over this continent — but I think my addictive ridiculousness shines when I’m taunting my fellow friends on our commute into work. It’s an hour bus ride. I have been known to get mad if someone blocks my planned move, and I’m suddenly all sorts of pissy when I we arrive. Or randomly, you’ll hear someone call out “What the hell is Orgeats? That is SO not a word!”

One of my competitors just sent me this video and it is the most brilliant way to encompass the entire emotional experience of playing Words with Friends.

During the “gweduc?” part of the song, my thought process was:
“i think it’s spelled GEODUCK.
which i’ve used.
on a triple word score.”

And I relived that moment, remembering how I soared ahead in points. My WWF geekiness knows no bounds.

The Random

I had to show Lennon my butt rash. I didn’t know what was going on and I needed a second opinion, and I certainly wasn’t going to get my husband involved. So in our little office, I had to show it to her. That’s real. - "Jessica St. Clair"
