Oh Britney, Are You a Woman Yet?

June 23, 2011 by Amy

BritBrit’s new video popped up yesterday and I had no idea what to expect. I admit, that as great as my love is for Miss Brit, I have yet to really listen to her new album. Which I should probably do as I’m off to see her in concert in August — although I tend to get really head-spinny when I see her live. Especially since I’m very spoiled with fantastic seats from E, who is the only one who gets more head-spinny than I do.

That being said, I laughed through the whole “I Wanna Go” video. Which I think I’m supposed to do:

It’s bizarre and kind of insane and I kind of love it. MTV.com has graciously put together a list of the pop culture references in the video. (I did manage to catch most of them, although I have blocked out the creepy E*Trade baby, and have yet to see Kill Bill, either volume.)

My favorite reference, however, is the Crossroads 2: Cross Harder. Perfect and Brilliant. I paid cash money to see Crossroads in the theatre — I might have heckled my way through it, but I PAID! Which then, of course, brought me back to this: Brit Hits the Big Screen

Discussing Crossroads over lunch with a friend, I said that it plays out like a bad fanfic written by a twelve-year-old.

Reuters recounts that “the movie was reportedly met with laughter by London reviewers at a press screening last month,” and I have to say that was quite similar to my own experience. Stuck in the worst possible seats for a packed preview (second row, staring straight up into Ms. Spears’ crotch as she shimmied in her skivvies – that sounds more exciting than it should), we kept sane with a running commentary. And we weren’t the only ones. Save for a couple of young girls who were sniffling at the most!sweetest!movie!ever!, the rows in front and behind us kept up with our banter.

Oh BritBrit. What can I say, I will never be able to quit you and your madness. Your beautiful, crazy madness.

Literally, in a wheelchair, this guy could kick anyone’s ass. He is the manliest man alive. They don’t get manlier than Ricardo Montalban. I think he’s manlier than anyone on any show I’ve ever been on. -- Javier Grillo-Marxuach
